snowcappedrose asked: Since you're taking these kinds of questions, what is your opinion on Shadow?
I think he’s a great character who has had questionable utilization and whats more is very unfairly scapegoated by the critics and fans for the series’ shortcomings.
I was intrigued by the implications about his personality before the ARK incident. In The Doom level in his self-titled game, Maria mentions how Shadow used to have fun running up and down two steep inclines within the facility and it is also shown that Shadow was a friendly, calm, very loyal and extremely protective, if quiet and introspective person before the aforementioned ARK incident took everything he ever knew away from him and broke his heart. It’s genuinely interesting how you can see parallels between Shadow protecting Maria from Heavy Dog and Sonic protecting Tails from Egg Nega Wisp. It just goes to show that both Sonic and Shadow have distinct and really cool similarities beyond their physical appearances.
He’s diabolically intelligent too and this is believably written. He’s the one playing Eggman like a card throughout SA2, acting like the chessmaster and making use of the doc’s ambitions to further his own plan of exacting Gerald’s revenge.
The character’s determination and perseverance is just all kinds of admirable. Amnesia? Didn’t stop him trying to find answers. Been warped into the past? Just go with it man! Creator turned you into an instrument of revenge and tampered with your mind as well to boot? Go against that purpose and programming upon being reminded of your sister’s dying wish!
Again, whilst SONIC ‘06’s writing was chock-full of problems, I’ll give it it’s dues in regards to the way it portrayed Shadow. It is genuinely epic how he saw right through Mephiles’ facades and saw how he was trying to ‘recruit’ him in order to exact his own revenge rather than to give Shadow an opportunity to fight against humanity for sealing him in the future.
As Shadow himself said, if the world does choose to become his enemy he’ll fight like he always has. And he doesn’t need the manipulations and input of any demonic doppelganger in order to do so.
It also succeeded in giving Shadow character development by making him not only resistant to the machinations of others but also putting great value in his closest allies. I mean when Rouge told him that if the everyone turns against him she’ll stand by his side, Shadow says that he’ll always remember that. He also seems to express….sadness? At the revelation that it’s Omega who seals him in the future yet doesn’t treat the robot grudgingly.
What I also find funny and charming about Shadow is his arrogance which I’d say is arguably even more prevalent than Sonic’s! He’s extremely self-assured about his ULF status for one and has no compunctions about getting this across. And then there’s how he sees himself as more than a worthy rival to Sonic in terms of power.
Speaking of Sonic, can’t help but smile whenever those two interact. They’re such contrasts from one another and serve as interesting foils to each other. Sonic with his happy-go-lucky. amiable and social personality and Shadow with his tendency to brood, emotionally reclusive and fairly unsocial personality.
As I said, Shadow is unfairly scapegoated by the ‘professional’ reviewers and the dumb fans for the problems the series has that aren’t even related to him. He’s viewed all too often as an acceptable target and I dislike how his tendencies and mannerisms are blown out of all proportion by his detractors to make him look like a bottom of the barrel Sonic character.
Suck it, haters. ~ Ryan

Microsoft Publishes Sexist Form Letter To Help Dudes Convince Women To Let Them Buy An Xbox One
Today Microsoft released a form letter essentially created for men to send to women, encouraging their partners to let them buy an Xbox One console, as the new device will be great for both of them.
The letter, which can be customized slightly, is incredibly bad, playing to ridiculous male and female gender stereotypes. It presumes that women don’t like sports or play video games and need to be condescended into technology purchase decisions by their male partners as they oh-so-certainly couldn’t come to those conclusions on their own!
After all, women and technology, amirite?
Holy hell, Microsoft. I know that young male gamers can be a touch on the ignorant side when it comes to gender equality, but from a company worth more than $300 billion, and with better-than-normal female representation in its senior leadership, producing something this sexist and ignorant is an incredible disappointment and shame.
Propagating sexist stereotypes isn’t something to be tolerated. What’s almost incredible in the letter (before its language is potentially shaken up by the user) is that it manages to be directly sexist in implication, using loaded language like “honey” and comments on the physical appearance of the unnamed recipient, while eliding direct indication of gender. But it’s there. If you can’t see it, open your eyes.
This from a company that managed to come out on the right side of history on gay rights in Washington. The letter is also stridently heteronormative. Its almost oppressively straight tone is off-key from a company such as Microsoft, which has a large LGBT workforce. You almost want to wonder what’s up over in Xbox-land.
For flavor, a few quotes:
Hey honey, Not sure if you’ve heard, but Xbox One is now available.
After all, women don’t follow news, let alone technology news, and so how could she know! Time to let her in on the secrets of little boxes with blinky lights!
Maybe you don’t LOVE games like I do, but there’s really something for everyone. […] You love movies and I love football. Well, with the Xbox One, we can love both.
Again, women don’t play games. Ever. And apparently don’t like football. But they do love those movies! You know, the ones with the actors and actresses they read about in their fluffy women’s magazines! The sort of magazines that never discuss technology, of course. We know that as we’ve already established that the women this letter is for have never heard of the word “Xbox” before!
We can talk on Skype with your favorite sister whom, of course, I love dearly.
Because men don’t have close family! That’s for women! And dear heavens if men have, you know feelings and all that. Those are for women! And fine dear we can talk to your goddamn sister so long as I get Man Time later to shoot things. Pew, pew, pew, woman.
So what do you say? Let’s be like an awesome movie montage-just me, you, and my [the my is crossed out] our Xbox One-together at last.
Again, women don’t own consoles! Silly women!
P.S. Did I mention how beautiful you are? And how I really appreciate that you love me more than anything?
Microsoft, did I mention how stupid this letter is and how much respect for you I just lost?
The Xbone Zone strikes again and this time they’re dousing themselves in gasoline and lighting themselves ablaze.
I’d literally be ashamed to own one of these consoles at this point, and my resolve to get away from anything Microsoft has only gotten more intense.
LAUGHING FOR ALL ETERNITY
Is there a running list for all of the things they’ve fucked up so far?

Go give them your money.
Goodbye facial hair. It was a good November, but it’s now December and it’s time for you to go.
Took a picture with and without my glasses for each because apparently I look completely different to some people without them.
